Two of our tours start at hotels - The Novotel Istanbul and Ibis Hotel Istanbul offer a hotel shuttle bus service to and from Sultanahmet - the old City (taking approximately 35 minutes) and Taksim Square a few times a day. If you are arriving early and wish to independently explore, consider making use of the service. Taxis are also available from the hotel at all times of the day and night. If all taxis are taken at any time, another is typically along every few minutes. If not, ask the reception to organize one for you.

Restaurants :
During the tour we will take you to excellent restaurants in which you will enjoy authentic Turkish cuisine. We know how to avoid the crowds to make your experience more enjoyable.

Day-1
Istanbul

Welcome to Turkey and your ANZAC experience! Airport to hotel arrival transfer. The rest of the day is free for you to independently explore. This evening after our welcome meeting at 8:00pm opt for a drink in the bar, a great way to break the ice and meet fellow travelers.
Overnight - Istanbul

Day-2
Istanbul Old City

Guided city tour taking in the hippodrome area, exotic Blue Mosque, Underground Cistern, Hagia Sofia - Emperor Justinian's grand basilica, Topkapi Palace and more. Later this afternoon we'll wander the cavernous Grand Bazaar before walking to the waterfront, where located opposite is the colorful and ever lively Egyptian Spice Market. Time will be given for you to explore the exotic bazaar and possibly purchase some fresh or dried fruits, nuts, pistachios, Turkish Delight and other treats.
Overnight - Istanbul

Day-3
Touring of ANZAC Cove - Istanbul, Gallipoli

An early morning departure to the WW1 battlefields on the Gallipoli Peninsula. Please bring your bags with you and place them on the bus. Pay all room bills and hand your key into reception before going to breakfast. The futile campaign, infamously known as Gallipoli, is poignantly etched in history. In the fierce struggle for Turkish territory, thousands perished as the odds were resolutely stacked against them. The Turks sustained terrible losses. Thousands of Australian, New Zealand, British, French and Indian Allied troops also died.
Today, we tour the region with ease and without the crowds, as most ANZAC pilgrims will descend upon the peninsula tomorrow. Walk in the footsteps of the ANZACs with visits to ANZAC Cove, Lone Pine Australian Memorial, Chunuk Bair New Zealand Memorial, Johnstons Jolly and the trenches. We then drive to the seaside village of Gallipoli. After hotel check-in and dinner at our hotel, we'll take a stroll along the small harbor. Stop for coffee at any one of the many port side local restaurants and cafes overlooking the water.
Overnight - Eceabat & Gallipoli (B, D)

Day-4
Turkish Air Force Air Show, ANZAC Eve - Hotel Gallipoli

Returning to the Gallipoli National Park area, we attend the Turkish International Service and watch the Turkish Air Force display at Mehmetcik Abide. We then visit the small fishing village of Kilitbahir and tour the impressive Kilitbahir Fort. Kilitbahir, meaning lock of the sea, lives up to its name. The fort was built in 1453 by Mehmet II the Conqueror, as part of his successful siege on Constantinople. Many of the naval battles of the Dardanelles in the Gallipoli campaign took place here prior to the army landings. After we've explored the fort we will sit down and enjoy our ANZAC BBQ (late afternoon) lunch before returning to our hotel for dinner and a leisurely evening.
Overnight - Eceabat & Gallipoli (B, L, D)

Day-5
ANZAC Day - Gallipoli, Istanbul

Today, the 25th of April marks the reason we came to Turkey and Gallipoli. Departing our hotel around 2:00 am, we return to the Dawn Service Site. At this point it is a good time to fix in your mind the letter of your coach which can be seen on the sign on the right side of the front windshield. Remember your coach letter, i.e. Coach A, B, C etc.
Important instructions will be given about where to meet with your coach on April 25 after the national services have concluded. It is very important that you follow the meeting instructions in order that you rendezvous with your correct coach. Whilst drop-offs usually run smoothly, be prepared for a long walk from where your coach is ordered to stop, to get to ANZAC Cove on ANZAC morning.
Departing our hotel at approximately 2:00 am, we return to the Dawn Service Site, soaking up the atmosphere of the morning and the heartfelt chants of the crowd.
First light heralds a poignant bugle call and commencement of the Dawn Service. On completion of the Dawn Service at approximately 6:15 am, visitors have a four hour period before commencement of the Australian National Memorial Service at Lone Pine Service around 10:30 am. Many choose to walk the 2-3 kilometres distance via Ari Burnu, Beach, Shrapnel Valley and Shell Green Cemeteries.
Return to Istanbul and check in to hotel.

Day-6
Istanbul

Istanbul. At 09:00 (after breakfast), join us for a 2 hour cruise along the
Bosphorus - the strait that divides European from Asian Istanbul. Returning to the hotel before 12 noon and hotel check-out. This marks the end of a memorable ANZAC experience. If your flight does not depart till later in the day opt to check out early in the morning, then after our Bosphorus Cruise pop across the road to explore the mammoth Grand Bazaar and exotic Egyptian Spice market. The ideal place for some last minute souvenir shopping! Make sure you have checked out of the hotel this morning though. (B)

CLIMATE

Turkey is a destination that can be visited year round. Temperatures in April are unpredictable. Days can be amazingly warm, though temperatures do drop at night so it's important to pack some warmer clothes. The weather on the Gallipoli Peninsula in April can be very hot during the day and bitterly cold overnight (with temperatures below freezing). Rain and very cold winds are possible, but you can also get burnt from the sun and wind.
It is important to ensure you have sufficient warm and protective clothing for all weather conditions.

Expect to stand for long periods at times, including in queues for security screening to enter each commemorative site. Some assistance is available, by advance application, for visitors with mobility issues. All of the basic facilities like portable toilets, lighting, and non-drinking water are brought in for the commemorations. Seating is not allocated and is extremely limited at all services. Facilities are provided for people with mobility issues or medical conditions at Gallipoli. The commemorative sites are difficult to access for individuals who require special assistance. Limited mobility assistance is available including: seating in reserved stands, with access to a reserved disabled toilet, and seats on assisted mobility shuttle buses, which move between the commemorative sites.
The commemorative sites are not wheelchair friendly and there are no wheelchairs available for use onsite. Only basic first aid facilities are available from the evening of 24 April and during the day on 25 April. If you do have limited mobility it is also essential that you contact First Travel and complete a fit to travel form so that we can assess if the tour is suitable for you.
