Turkey Holy Land Tours

5 Nights, 6 Days - This tour package includes the 7 churches from chapters 2 and 3 of the Biblical book of Revelation.
The Seven Churches of Revelation, also known as The Seven Churches of the Apocalypse and The Seven Churches of Asia (referring to the Roman province of Asia, not the entire continent), are seven major churches of Early Christianity, as mentioned in the New Testament Book of Revelation. In Revelation, on the Greek island of Patmos, Jesus Christ instructs his servant, the Apostle John, through an angelic intermediary, to: "Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, and to Smyrna, and to Pergamum, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."

A highlight of this tour is the well preserved ruins of ancient Ephesus. During two of his missionary journeys St. Paul visited Ephesus in Turkey. He stayed in the city about three years (Acts 19:1-20). In Ephesus Paul discovered twelve believers who were baptized but who did not as yet have the Holy Spirit. Paul baptized them in Jesus' Name and they received God's Holy Spirit.

"Churches" in this context refers to the community or local congregations of Christians living in each city, and not merely to the building or buildings in which they gathered for worship.

The seven churches are located in:

  • Ephesus (Metropolis of Ephesus)
  • Smyrna (Metropolis of Smyrna, modern day Izmir)
  • Pergamum (Metropolis of Pergamum)
  • Thyatira
  • Sardis (See of Sardis)
  • Philadelphia (Metropolis of Philadelphia)
  • and Laodicea, near Denizli (see Laodicean Church building)

Biblical References:
The Seven Churches mentioned by St. John in the Book of Revelation (The Apocalypse) are all found in Turkey and each was a founding community of Christianity.

Ephesus Museum:
The Ephesus Archaeological Museum is in Selcuk just 1 km away from the ancient city of Ephesus. It houses finds from the nearby Ephesus excavation site. Its best-known exhibit is the statue of Artemis retrieved from the temple of the goddess in Ephesus. Extensive renovations on the museum were finished in November 2014.

Seven sleepers:
Ephesus is believed to be the city of the Seven Sleepers. The story of the Seven Sleepers, who are considered to be saints by both Catholic and Orthodox Christians and whose story is also mentioned in the Qur'an [59], tells that they were persecuted because of their belief in God and that they slept in a cave near Ephesus for centuries.

Terrace Houses:
You will be glad you spent the additional fee for this "extra" tour through Ephesus' living history. Half an hour will fly by leaving you wishing for more time to see the mosaics and experience the feel of these ancient hillside homes. As you exit this section of the tour, take advantage of the great views of the city to snap some photographs. Its a pity that the exterior of the building is an eyesore that detracts from the feel of the city.

The Isabey Mosque :
The Isabey Mosque (Turkish: Isa Bey Camii), constructed in 1374-75, is one of the oldest and most impressive works of architectural art remaining from the Anatolian beyliks (separately governed regions). The mosque is situated on the outskirts of the Ayaslug Hills in Selcuk, Izmir.

The Village of Sirince:
Sirince (pronounced şirince) is a village of 500 inhabitants in Izmir Province, Turkey, located about 8 kilometers (5 miles) east of the town of Selcuk. Sirince was settled when Ephesus was abandoned in the 15th century but most of what one sees today dates from the 19th century. There is a story that the village was settled by freed Greek slaves who named the village Sirkince (meaning "Ugly" in Turkish) to deter others from following them. The village's name was changed to Sirince (meaning "Pleasant") in 1926 by the governor of Izmir Province.

Camel Wrestling:
The annual camel wrestling championship takes place at Selcuk-Pamucak (Ephesus Beach) in January.

Railway Museum:
In the village of Camlik is the Camlik Railway Museum.
